Neoseiulus cucumeris (Thrips control)

Neoseiulus cucumeris is a predatory mite that feeds on immature thrips and some mites. N. cucumeris will also feed on pollen in crops such as capsicum and will persist at very low pest levels allowing it to be used preventatively.

N. cucumeris will play a key role in reducing pesticide resistance in thrips by eliminating, delaying, or reducing the number of pesticide applications necessary for thrips control. For best results N. cucumeris should be used in conjunction with Hypoaspis.

Tips on releasing:

  • Cucumeris should be released early before thrips populations have built up.
  • In capsicums (and other crops with suitable pollen) three releases of 50-100 per m2 should establish the predator in the crop.
  • In crops without suitable pollen releases should be made weekly or fortnightly.
  • Avoid broad spectrum insecticides and residual miticides prior to and after release.
